Prayer
Please pray for us as often as you remember us. In many places we are encountering a spiritual heaviness, and many of our staff often feel discouraged by the weight of the task given to them. If you aren’t on our prayer email list for monthly prayer updates, please contact us at office@lhnm.org and join us in praying for God to act in mighty and amazing ways. This is the single most important way you can be involved in LHNM.
Banquet/Information night Hosts
We are looking for a few churches to host either a fundraising banquet or an information night. If you’re excited about LHNM and want to tell your friends and community about the work we’re doing, but don’t always have the words to explain, please reach out to us and we can talk about bringing a team from LHNM to you. You can expect some stories, good music and a great time of connection.
Staff Payroll Fund
With minimum wage and living expenses increasing, we are finding some of our staff are at low levels of support. Some of our staff are making minimum wage or just above for the work they are doing, and I would love to see God’s people step up and give to help increase their wages. If you are interested in getting connected with the ministries that need more funding, or would like to give towards this cause let us know. I’d also love prayer for wisdom on connecting with new donors that would champion this cause so that our staff not only are able to survive but thrive. Also, if you’re connected with a church that has a missions committee, please consider approaching them about supporting one of the ministries at LHNM.
Northern Vehicle Fund
Right now we are looking for a pickup truck for use on the reserve in Pikangikum, and we’re looking for an SUV that can be used on and off reserve in Pikangikum. There is so much opportunity for ministry and making life easier for both Nick and Colleen if we’re able to provide a truck and SUV for them. If you’ve got a used truck or SUV that’s 4WD, or would like to contribute to the cost of purchasing them please contact us.
Akwachink Ministry
Studies show that camp or retreat events make young people much more likely to continue on in their faith than those who don’t go to camp or experience adventure with other believers. We want to help develop strong Christian young people by giving opportunities for youth and young adults to experience God in new and exciting ways through our Akwachink Ministry. We’d love to share more about what Akwachink is, so let us know if you’d like to know more and get involved.
Pikangikum Church Rebuilding
The Full Gospel church building in Pikangikum burnt down this past fall, and Pastor Simeon is currently working with members of the community to get the church building closed in. The foundation, floor, and walls are done and the roof is next. If you’d like to contribute to the construction of the church, you can send funds to LHNM and we will be supporting the construction of the church building.
VBS teams
There are many communities that desire VBS teams to come and minister in their community. We would love to be able to connect supporting churches and northern communities in long-term partnerships, through VBS, sports ministry, or summer camps. Reach out if you are interested in joining a VBS team or a summer camp ministry.
Northern Community Housing Fund
With the call for more workers comes a simple logistical challenge: we need to have housing for workers to live in when they respond to a call to live and work alongside local believers. We have three Bush Bungalows available to us to purchase, and we can have them moved to different communities by highway and the ice roads. The nice thing about the units is that they are very simple to hook up, and can be ready for staff almost as soon as they arrive on-site. The cost per unit is around $75,000 to get it to a northern community. We need one unit in Grassy Narrows as soon as possible, and can use another one in Pikangikum to provide housing for another worker to work alongside Nick and Colleen.
4 to 8 Month Internships
We are always on the lookout for people who are interested in learning from another culture and wish to use their gifts in a First Nations focused setting. If you have interest in serving, learning, and leading in a cross-cultural community or church setting, please contact us and we will begin the application process with you.
